At least 55 Fresno firefighters battled a three-alarm fire in central Fresno Thursday afternoon.
The blaze broke out around after 2:20 p.m. and at 2:48 p.m., a third alarm was called for the massive apartment fire at Sunset Sands.
Battalion Chief with the Fresno Fire Department, Richard Cabral, says the fire grew rapidly at the 16-unit complex.
He says the fire possibly originated from a unit where someone was cooking, but it hasn’t been confirmed.
Two people were treated for smoke inhalation, but no injuries were reported.
Thirty to fifty people will be displaced by the fire, he says, adding that Red Cross was asked to help with providing shelter.
Residents did try to use an extinguisher to put out the fire, but it was growing too rapidly, Cabral says.
