Fresno Co. Fire battles large blaze after yard work goes wrong, officials say

Local News

Fresno Co. Fire is battling a large barn fire near Sanger Wednesday afternoon.

The fire broke out in the area of Central and Greenwood avenues, and officials say the fire is threatening surrounding structures.

Sanger Live captured a video of the fire sending smoke into the air.

Fresno Co. Fire Batallion Chief Jeremiah Wittwer with says a resident was burning yard clippings when a fire ember traveled to a dry, grassy area and created an even bigger blaze.

He says when they arrived to the fire, the barn was already half way burned. The crew of about 20 firefighters ran out of water quickly, so they had to break down backyard fences to reach fire hydrants.

Wittwer says to do yard work before 10 a.m., mow your green grass and use a weed eater for dry grass.

No injuries were reported in the fire.
