Fresno boat crash, rescue prompts water safety message

Local News

Two people had to be rescued on the San Joaquin River after their boat flipped over.

The two were stuck on an island near Highway 41, and were spotted by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office helicopter around noon.

They were quickly taken to safety by the Fresno Fire Department’s river rescue team. Officials say water levels on the river are constantly changing.

“Keep in mind, with the changing water currents and levels, we’re anticipating as Millerton continues to rise, what was a safe passage a week ago, may not be a safe passage in a week. The current is changing, even where we launch our boat changes week to week,” says Fresno Fire Battalion Chief Brian Price.

There were no injuries reported.
