Firefighters take a family for a day at the fair

Local News

FRESNO, California (KSEE/KGPE) – Crew members from Fresno Fire Department once again hosted one lucky family at the Big Fresno Fair.

The annual tradition is thanks to the Fresno Fire Chief Foundation, which provides enough money to invite one family to the fair with all expenses paid for.

Fresno Fire Captain Paul Garnier was part of Tuesday’s group. He said some families do not have the transportation or the money to get to experience the fair.

Through the foundation, all expenses are covered. Garnier said dozens of firefighters will volunteer their time to escort the family around the fair. That includes face-painting, experiencing fair food, and going on the rides with them.

“All of our firefighters that participate are all volunteers,” said Garnier. “We volunteer our time to host these children and these families. It’s a wonderful event.”

Garnier said his favorite part is simply seeing the kids’ reactions and making their wish come true.
