Families heartbroken over two young adults deaths after car overturns into Bass Lake

Local News

MADERA COUNTY, California (KSEE) – The two people killed after their car overturned in Bass Lake on Wednesday have been identified.

A call came in around 7:30 a.m. about a car overturned in Bass Lake.

Samuel Rosasco, 21, of Oakhurst, was driving on Road 222 near Road 426, when he took a left curve, but his car went off the road.

He and his passenger, Karina Barnett, 17, of Ahwahnee, crashed into an embankment, then went across all lanes of Road 222.

Both Barnett and Rosasco had previously attended Yosemite High School for a period of time. Principal Stephanie Osowski said both were loved by students and teachers.

CHP says neither of them was wearing seat belts during the crash.

“I know those teachers will carry those kids in their hearts forever,” said Osowski. “It is never easy.”

Rosasco was an active member of the ROP Welding club and Barnett played JV basketball for the Badgers.

According to Osowski, this isn’t the first time the Rosasco family has lost a family member.

“That family has had more than their fair share of tragedy and like I said no parent should have to bury their child let alone more than one.

Counselors are available to students and teachers, and donations can be made to the families through the school.
