FRESNO, California (KSEE) – A Fresno County Sheriff’s Deputy has been injured Wednesday following what witnesses say was a shooting.
According to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, the incident took place at Mayfair Drive and 6th Street in Fresno. A man quickly attacked the deputy. During this fight, a round was discharged from the deputy’s handgun.
An off-duty deputy witnessed the fight and stopped to help. Investigators say they do not know who fired the shots. The two deputies say they were able to gain control of the suspect and place him under arrest.
Authorities say the deputy suffered a graze wound to his upper leg from the bullet that was fired. He was transported to the hospital and treated for a non-life-threatening injury.
A witness told KSEE24 that he heard one or two shots fired.
East McKinley Ave. between Cedar and Millbrook Avenues is expected to reopen to motorists around 9:00 p.m, according to authorities.
Authorities are not releasing the name of the suspect but say he is in his mid 20’s and is a parolee at large.
