Concerned owner sends four cats from Venezuela to Cat House on the Kings

Local News

This week four cats were rescued and brought to the valley from Venezuela after the owner feared for their safety.

“It is incredible,” said Cat House on the Kings Board Member Francie Caraker. “It is a miracle.”

Back in March The Cat House on Kings got a message on Facebook from Venezuelan resident Jimena who wanted to escape with her daughter. Before her family left the country she needed to find a forever home for her cats.

“Their owner said there were animals starving and the zoos were in horrible situations in Venezuela, said Caraker. “So not only is it difficult for people to get along, not having power, not having internet for communication and having a hard time finding food but it is even worse for the animals.”

She reached out to the Cat House who said as long as she could get the cats to San Francisco International Airport, someone from the center would pick them up. Volunteer Coordinator Beth Caffery said the owner is relieved the cats made it but is sad she had to say goodbye.

“To lose that part of your family,” said Caffery. “That unconditional love that is just right there with you. Now the good thing is, know that they are safe and they are still there in spirit. But at the same time that is very difficult. So we desperately feel for the family knowing you separated them from their loved ones.”

The Cat House said the cats are healthy and safe. Coco, Bruster, Harry, and Mimosa will stay in a transitional room while they get adjusted to their new surroundings.

The plan is to one day reconnect them with their owner but until then they will remain at the Cat House.
