California has $770 million in unclaimed cash. Some of it could be yours

SACRAMENTO, California - Nearly $770 million in cash was handed over to the State of California for its residents to begin claiming.

State Controller Betty T. Yee announced in a news release on Tuesday that residents can check to see if they have unclaimed cash from old bank accounts, stocks, safe deposit boxes and other places where money can be leftover.

There is no time limit or cost for submitting a claim directly to the state controller's office.

Starting this month, residents can download the unclaimed property database and see if people in their area have money or items that can be claimed.

Potential owners can search on the controller’s database at www.claimit.ca.gov or call 800-992-4647.
