A 41-year-old man died while in the custody of Porterville Police officers after a traffic stop lead to a foot pursuit, department officials confirmed Thursday.

Officials say Armando Orozco was the passanger of a car that was stopped by officers. He allegedly fled and began jumping fences of nearby homes.

Orozco was found in the 700 block of South Indiana Street with the help of California Highway Patrol helicopter H-40 and Tulare County Sheriff’s deputies.

Once taken into custody, officials say Orozco appeared to suffer a medical emergency and died.

The driver of the car Orozco fled from was arrested for unknown reasons.

The department says the investigation is ongoing.
