Fresno County violent crimes prosecutor Andrew Janz officially announced his candidacy for mayor of Fresno Thursday.

He’s known for putting away bad guys, and for his congressional run against Congressman Devin Nunes in 2018. He lost that race by 12 points.

But in this run for city, he says he hopes to end widespread poverty and other issues that spark homelessness.

Current Fresno Mayor Lee Brand has been vocal about his opponent, saying Janz does not have the experience, but Janz disagrees.

Before Janz kicked off his campaign, Brand spoke with us citing his recording, saying he has created 5,000 jobs for Fresno, cut down on crime rates and has increased police staffing levels and plans to do more.

Janz says he plans to start campaigning aggressively, and will not accept any donations from developers.
