20th annual Race for the Cure is this weekend to support breast cancer awareness

Local News

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and this weekend marks the 20th annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Fresno.

Seeing a sea of pink in support of breast cancer awareness means the world to Norm Jorgensen.

“To see it as a successful conclusion was very gratifying, and the fact we are in our 20th year is amazing,” Jorgensen said.

His wife Carolyn started the Central Valley’s Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 20 years ago. In 2007, she lost her life to the disease.

For Norm, every step taken means his wife’s legacy continues.

“She’s a fighter; she’s tough — a very passionate person. I know she’s looking down and smiling and saying we are in our 20th year we are going to find a cure.
