MARIPOSA COUNTY, California – Firefighters made gains Sunday on the more than 1,000-acre brush fire in Mariposa County that started Friday, August 16.
The Gaines fire is burning in the area of Bear Valley Road and Mt. Gaines Road and is located in the same area as a fire on Thursday, August 15.
As of 7:05 a.m., the fire is 40 percent contained and burned 1,300 acres, Cal Fire said. All evacuation advisories and road closures were lifted Saturday evening for Pendola Garden Road at Highway 49, the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office said.
Multiple firefighting units have responded including aircraft.
