An affluent Fresno neighborhood targeted by burglars.
Residents of Monte Verdi are now on high alert and the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
The Sheriff’s Office confirms at least 8 burglaries over the past 18 months in the neighborhood.
The string of burglaries are believed to be connected.
“It’s just crazy because there’s been so many break-ins so quickly in such a short amount of time,” said Resident, Rebecca Galli.
Her home was hit just last month.
“They tried breaking our glass windows but we have the protectant on the back windows and really we have a lot of bars on our windows too,” Galli said.
It didn’t stop them though. The criminals jumped over the fence and broke into the neighbor’s home instead.
“They’ve taken guns,” Galli explained. “They’ve taken whole safes. They’ve taken bolt cutters and taken them right off the floor and carried them out in my neighbor’s car and drove off with the car.”
Purses, jewelry and electronics have also been ripped off. The Sheriff’s Office saying the items swiped worth tens of thousands of dollars.
“It’s just unusual because it’s a gated community,” said Tony Botti of the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.
“Now we feel on edge not just with the outside community but even our neighbors inside we’re worried to go out during the day because some of the break-ins have been during the day,” Galli said.
With an investigation underway, we know the highly sophisticated schemes aren’t being done solo.
“They seem like they know what they’re doing,” Galli said.
“We do want the citizens to know that we are working hard to try to identify the people. This appears to be a lot of people,” Botti concluded.
No arrests have been made. If you have any information you’re asked to call the Sheriff’s Office.
