KSEE24, Catholic Charities holds Annual Turkey Drive

Thanksgiving is just a few days away and YourCentalValley is doing its part to help Valley families.

Tuesday, KSEE24 is holding a turkey drive. We are partnering with Catholic Charities once again and your turkey donation can make a difference.

Our very own KSEE24 employees will be ready to collect all those turkeys, from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. All the turkeys go towards helping those in need, have a Happy Thanksgiving.

For the past seven years, folks in the community have dropped off turkey, after turkey. As part of KSEE24’s Catholic Charities Annual Turkey drive to help those in need.

Tuesday, we’re hoping the community will help do it again.

“We’ll be collecting these turkey’s all day tomorrow, so we really rely on the community’s support,” Ashlee Wolf with Catholic Charities, Diocese of Fresno, said.

Wolf said this year they’re preparing to feed about 1,200 families with turkey meal boxes, which includes some Thanksgiving side dishes.

“We try to supplement with an entire Thanksgiving meal, so we’ll have stuffing, green beans and other side dishes,” Wolf said.

But she says it’s not just a meal.

“It’s an opportunity to create memories that will last them a lifetime,” Wolf said.

Memories, Efren Arellano said he hopes to have with his girlfriend and three step-children.

“I want to make sure they have a Thanksgiving at at home,” Arellano, a Catholic Charities client, said.

Arellano said he recently graduated from Cesar E. Chavez Adult Education Center but has had a hard time finding a job.

So, he looks to places like Catholic Charities to help keep food on the table.

“I do ask for help and support from food banks which keeps me on my feet and healthy,” Arellano said.

The holidays can bring added pressure to those less fortunate. Catholic Charities said that’s why they teamed up with KSEE24 to make sure families won’t go without.

They’re not just collecting turkeys but cash donations as well. This year their goal is 50,000.

“We’re about 10,000 away from our goal that helps us support this effort,” Wolf said.

Last year we collected 1,100 turkeys and Catholic Charities said this year, they hope to top that.

Again, turkeys or a cash donation can be dropped off at our studios.
