Kidnapping, Carjacking Suspect Dumps Victim’s Car off Bluff Avenue

Fresno Police are one step closer to finding the man accused of assaulting, kidnapping, and carjacking a woman in Northeast Fresno. The crimes occurred on Friday morning. Police said the suspect stole the victim’s SUV after assaulting her. Officers recovered the car on Sunday morning.

Chief Jerry Dyer said the 24-year old victim’s stolen SUV was found less than 2.5 miles away from her house. Police believe the suspect dumped the car an hour after committing the alleged crimes.

Dyer said the suspect is still on the run.

“This suspect committed a very brazen act in broad daylight, forcing himself on this female inside of the home,” stated Dyer.

The unidentified suspect has been described as a white man in his 40s, who is balding and heavy set. Police said after he assaulted the woman, he forced her and the one-year old baby she cares for, into her SUV. Dyer said he held her at knifepoint, and drove her to the Wells Fargo ATM at Champlain and Shepherd to withdraw $200. He left them there, and drove off in the victim’s car.

Dyer said, “We believe that he abandoned the vehicle where he did and that he’s still within the Fresno area.”

The victim’s car was found on Sunday morning in the 300 block of Bluff Avenue.

“The vehicle was parked in front of a vacant house and there was some work being done on that house by some workers, so we are attempting to locate those individuals now to get a statement to see what they saw at that time,” stated Dyer.

Dyer said the victim has left the area.

Local therapist Larry Langford said there may be lingering fear for the victim and the community as a whole.

“As long as this individual has not been apprehended, of course there will be fear and anxiety. Will he come back, is he not finished?” commented Langford on the victimization.

Police continue to canvass the area where the car was abandoned. They believe the suspect is still in the Fresno area. If you have any information on this case, you are urged to contact Fresno Police or Crime Stoppers at 498-STOP.
