An armed carjacking suspect out of Kern County has been detained in southwest Fresno.

CHP located the suspect driving north on Highway 99 and attempted to make a traffic stop.

The driver failed to stop and a short police pursuit ensued. The car drove through a dirt field and due to heavy dust officials lost sight of the car.

A short time later CHP received a call regarding a collision that matched a description of the suspect’s car.

Officials say while driving at high speeds, the suspect’s car crashed into poles and a fence in southwest Fresno; after fleeing on foot CHP was able to detain him a short distance away.

No one was injured.

A rifle, used during the carjacking, has not been recovered.
