Hwy 41 closed in both directions due to big rig crash

News

UPDATE: Highway 41 has reopened in Fresno after an early morning crash involving a big rig and several other vehicles.

The big rig crashed around 8 a.m. at Van Ness Avenue and Highway 41, forcing the freeway to shutdown in both directions.

The initial concern was the tanker possibly hauling aviation fuel, which is highly explosive, CHP says. Officials have since determined the tanker-truck was empty.

CHP says the driver of the big rig has been transported to the hospital, his current condition is unknown. CHP added up to three other vehicles were also involved, no one else was hurt.

According to Caltrans, the Van Ness Avenue off-ramp and Broadway Street on-ramp remain closed as crews repair guardrails. Expect some delays.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
