One woman with $10…
“Can buy another woman lunch.”
10 women with $10…
“Can buy another woman’s groceries.”
And a Romano’s Macaroni Grill restaurant full of people with $10…
“Can truly make a difference in another woman’s life.”
That was the goal Tuesday night, crowds flooding into the Fresno spot, to surround Kellie and Shawn Beaty with love.
“We all have people we know going through difficult times, but we never know how to help,” Helping One Woman, Fresno Chapter Leader Cathy Horn said.
Beaty, a teacher at Clovis Elementary School, was reading to her class last year, when the words, just wouldn’t come out.
Weeks later, she was in the ER.
“About a lemon-sized tumor on the speech part of her brain,” Shawn Beaty said.
“And I never went back,” Kellie Beaty said.
Beaty underwent emergency surgery.
Now, fighting level-four Glioblastoma.
She can’t work and has sick leave until December, but, her husband by her side, along with her kids, and faith.
“We’re just so blessed, I mean, we have such a support, from the community, from the church, just everybody,” Beaty said.
“We tell our kids all the time, we’re ridiculously in charge of our attitude, and we are,” Beaty’s husband said. “And that’s one of the things cancer has taught us, is that every day we have is a gift.”
Through it all the couple, transplants from San Diego seven years back, proud to call the valley home.
Helping One Woman feels the same.
“We’re so proud that we can be a part of this,” H.O.W. Fresno Chapter Leader Lisa Garver said.
Organizers say today was actually the 11th anniversary of Helping One Woman.
There’s a dinner next week as well, same time, same place. It’s also at capacity, but you can still give, through the organization’s Facebook page.
