Elaine Sotiropulos from the Fresno County Office of Education visited KSEE Sunrise to talk about this weekend’s upcoming History Day competition at Fresno Pacific University. 493 entries in the elementary, junior high and high school divisions. Winners advance to the state championships.
Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Fresno Pacific University 1. 33rd year of competition in Fresno County. This year’s theme: Exploration, Encounter, Exchange in History. 2. We expect almost 500 students who have entered 275 entries. 100 more students and 30 more entries than last year! 3. Students compete in 3 Divisions: Elementary (4th-5th grades), Junior (6th-8th grades), and Senior (9th-12th grades). 4. Categories of competition: 2-D Displays (posters) for Elementary only. Juniors and Seniors compete as Individuals or Groups in Documentaries, Exhibits, Historical Papers, Performances and Websites. 5. State competition (NHD-CA) in Rocklin, CA at William Jessup University, May 6-7 2016. National History Day (NHD) is at the University of Maryland in June. 6. Top 3 County Co-Champions in Elementary and Senior Divisions, and top 2 Co-Champions in Junior Division go on to State Competition. Fresno Pacific Students, with the help of Dr. Pamela Johnston, plus other volunteers including parents, teachers, and others who wish to see enthusiastic, engaged students and their excellent projects, work with the Fresno County Office of Education to complete pre-judging, judging, and other duties the day of the event. 8.
