A 9 year old Fresno boy who pushed his little brother out of the way of an oncoming SUV was honored as a hero.
Deshaun Mitchell’s church recognized his heroism during a Sunday morning service. He pushed his brother, 7, out of harms way, as the driver never stopped. Mitchell, instead was struck. He is still in a wheelchair, recovering from a broken femur and bruised lungs. But he still remains in good spirits.
“It makes me feel like I’m happy and really grateful for that,” said Mitchell.
“The way he reacted the way that he changed, he’s not the same anymore, you can tell he’s a lot more mature now because he’s been through something,” said Shawnnika Peters, Mitchell’s mother.
Mitchell was also honored while he was still in the hospital.
Fresno police arrested the hit and run driver last month.
