Triple-digit heat is no time to lose air conditioning, but it happened in almost 6,000 Valley homes early Sunday evening. And still today — with record heat — about 1,700 customers are without power.
The extreme heat effects PG&E’s electrical grids, and on days like Sunday, when it was a weekend and so hot, the amount of people who came home and flipped their air conditioning on all around the same time — it overloaded those grids.
PG&E says Thursday could be the worst of the week when it comes to potential power outages — and heat. So leading up until then, they say to turn off any extra lights, plugs or phone chargers.
