The wait is over, opening day for the Fresno Grizzlies is here.
The team kicked off its 2019 season Thursday, and it was the perfect time to show off the stadium’s new multi-million dollar additions.
“Every opening day is unique, but this one is a little bigger than what we’ve had in the past,” Paul Braverman the media relations manager for the Fresno grizzlies said.
Crowds can now check out three major upgrades, totaling about $3.5 million.
The Kodiak Club has been revamped. A new walk up bar is among several changes. There’s also some family fun with a water park and playground in right field, and in left field, the new ‘Fresno Social’ a bar and lounge area.
“We came to a game at the end of last season and they were working on it so now to see it open up, it’s pretty cool over here,” Ryan Powers said.
“I like this, this is very cool that you can get up out of your seat and wander around because you get kind of of (tired) sitting 12 innings. So it’s really good to be able to get up and walk around,” Annette Federico said.
According to Braverman mobility was a key to the design. “The days of fans sitting in one seat for a three hour baseball game, those days are over people want to move around experience the game,” he said.
The fan shop was packed with diehards stocking up on new gear with the new Grizzlies logo.
“I’m new to the area so it’s nice to see they have a minor league affiliate. You can go get the action of a real baseball game without going to LA or San Francisco,” Josh Behrens said.
