Governor Newsom halts death penalty

Governor Gavin Newsom signed an executive order early Wednesday, halting the state’s death penalty.

The order grants a reprieve for the 737 inmates currently on death row; however, the move will not commute their sentence. The order also suspends the lethal injection protocol.
