Gang sweep in Reedley nets drugs, guns and gang members

News

A multiple law enforcement agency gang sweep took place in Reedley Wednesday morning.

Law enforcement from Reedley, Dinuba and a variety of the others hit the streets after the area has seen a spike in gang violence and criminal activity.

In the end, dozens of known gang members were arrested.

A stash of weapons, including guns with silencers were confiscated from just one house.

One of 40 targets hit by law enforcement officers.

Lt. Hector Aleman, with the Reedley Police Department says, “We are about 40 officers, going from house to house. Some of these houses are open to probation, parole. Some of these gang members have arrest warrants and we are going from location to location.”

Officers tell CBS47 one convicted felon not only had several guns and ammunition, but they also found a tunnel.

A tunnel law enforcement says is big enough to hid more guns, bricks of dope and “anything else you want to hide.”

Officers say it was secretly placed under the Reedley home.

Officers say what makes this gang sweep different, they not only want to catch the bad guys but also learn how they operate.

“We are interviewing and interrogating every single person that we arrest today and try to get information on any crimes they committed or any information on crimes they know about,” says Lt. Aleman.

Law enforcement says the only way to attack this gang problem is through community support. They advise community members to report anything strange they see.
