A Selma man is facing serious charges including vehicular manslaughter after a deadly head-on collision on Highway 180.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Jose Martinez, 40, was under the influence of alcohol when he crashed into a white Ford Explorer Monday afternoon on Highway 180 east of Rio Vista Avenue.
“It was a pretty horrific scene out there,” CHP Office Mike Salas said.
Rosario Montalvo, 47, Fresno was pronounced dead on scene, while the three others in the Ford Explorer were rushed to Community Regional Medical Center.
Salas said Martinez was under the influence during the crash, his blood alcohol content level was three times the legal limit and this wasn’t his first DUI.
Your Central Valley spoke to a sister of one of the victims who said her brother had to undergo surgery while the others were recovering.
“The driver does have some prior history of DUI. He has two priors in his criminal history,” Salas said.
Salas said Martinez was arrested and faces charges of DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
Martinez is being treated at CRMC, once he’s released, he’ll be booked into the Fresno County jail.
