“Somebody earned a lot,” Tower resident Celena Martin said Monday.
Martin took a shortcut through a parking lot on Linden avenue in Fresno’s Tower District, around 9 Sunday night.
“And I just saw a little bit of a shine,” Martin said. “When we looked with our cell phones, I was able to see that they were something important to somebody, not valued for money, but just emotional value.”
AA sobreity coins, and other tokens.
“These bronze medallions are one year, two years; I think one of them in there was close to 15,” Total Life Change Executive Director Tod Harris said.
We showed Harris photos of the coins.
His program, a faith-based nonprofit, deals with addiction and more.
“Through those coins he tells a story,” Harris said of the owner.
Harris says, the ornate coins were maybe given to our mystery owner by friends, also in recovery.
“He stood the test, and he sat there, and he sat with them and talked to them,” Harris said. “And listened to them.”
Another, displaying the sign of the 58th Fighter Wing, possibly out of New Mexico, and a coin with the words, “Airman Against Drunk Driving.”
“That’s about him with his comrades,” Harris said. “Saying you know what, we don’t have to drink to be someone, today.”
Another, 24 hours sober.
“I just want them to have them back, that’s all, things just should be reunited with the person who owns them and earned them,” Martin said.
Martin is reaching out to the Fresno AA office to see if she can connect the coins to an owner.
There is a chance they were abandoned, but if you have any idea who these coins may belong to, leave a comment on this story post on our social media pages.
