Fresno woman dies in Concord hotel, police call it suspicious

A Fresno woman died in a Concord hotel room Sunday night, and local authorities are calling her death suspicious, the Concord Police Department said.

At 10:24 p.m., a 911 caller reported a physical assault of a woman at the Best Western hotel on Clayton Road, the Police Department said.

Officers arrived on scene and found Guadalupe Riggi, 24, of Fresno, unresponsive and alone inside one of the hotel rooms.

Lifesaving efforts were performed, but Riggi died at the scene.

Investigators worked through the night to track down the 911 caller who had left the scene prior to the arrival of first responders.

Within hours, the 911 caller and his car were located several counties away. He was arrested on unrelated charges outside of Contra Costa County.

Concord investigators interviewed him about Riggi’s death and will continue to analyze his involvement with the investigation as new information is learned, police said.

Riggi’s cause of death has yet to be determined.

Any with information should call Detective Smith at (925) 603-5859.
