Fresno Tattoo Artist Survives Breast Cancer And Now Helps Other Survivors

News

On canvas.. And on skin.  Kimberly Bearden is an artist.
She specializes in beautiful images and colors, and has been creating them as a tattoo artist for 27 years.    But when she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer a year and a half ago, Kimberly decided to refocus her business– to restore what many breast cancer patients have taken away:  their breasts.  “It’s kind of scary to be faced with cancer.  I wanted to reexamine what I do.  I wanted something that was really fulfilling and really meant something,” Kimberly says.

Kimberly did not have to have a mastectomy, but she’s treated many women who have.  Like 11-year survivor Cheryl Bielewicz of Fresno who’s ready to complete her reconstruction with a tattooed nipple and areola.   According to Cheryl, “I’m doing this for me.  To be the best version of myself and be comfortable and aesthetically.”

Kimberly received specialized training and certification for Medical Micropigmentation.  She uses a line of ink that can be mixed to recreate all skin shades.  Her work looks 3-dimensional, even on flat skin.  “I’ve studied in photo realism tattooing as well as a painterly style so I can create something that looks just like a photographic image,” she says.

It’s interesting how a Breast Cancer diagnosis changed the course of Kimberly’s work.  A blessing to beat cancer and now help others feel good about their outcome.     “To see them feeling beautiful again.  It’s really amazing,” says Kimberly

Kimberly says her breast restorative tattoos are covered by insurance.  Her services are unique in the valley.  For more information and to see examples of her work go to her website:
