Fresno nonprofit recognized for helping to lift people out of poverty by Valley assemblyman

FRESNO, California (KSEE/KGPE) – A Fresno nonprofit was recognized Wednesday for their work in helping to lift people out of poverty.

Valley Dream Center was selected by California State Assemblyman Jim Patterson as the 23rd Assembly District’s 2019 Nonprofit of the Year.

The assemblyman was on hand to present the award to the nonprofit’s found and executive director. Volunteers, board members and supporters were also there to witness the event.

The Valley Dream Center was established in 2014 with the mission of impacting the community by empowering individuals and families to end the crippling cycle of poverty through the three pillars: Rescue those with immediate needs; Restore the dignity and health of individuals and families; Release people equipped with skills, into the workplace.

The nonprofit hosts comprehensive, high quality programs and services: A future transitional Living Facility, a commercial kitchen, the GED and computer literacy program, a volunteer training program (includes college students from Fresno State, Fresno Pacific University and the community colleges), gang intervention, a micro-garden with produce for families and for teaching how to prepare nutritional meals, outreach events, an after-school program, sports mentoring programs, Job Readiness training, Adult Education, a food pantry, food distribution, financial literacy classes and parenting classes.

“The Valley Dream Center is making a real impact on the lives of Central Valley families in need every day,” said Assemblyman Jim Patterson. “They are most deserving of this honor and for their tireless efforts to bring the support and services to uplift and educate our neighborhoods in need. We are grateful for their commitment to their mission.”
