Fresno Fire Department sends more crews, resources to Southern California fires

Bags packed, the necessities stowed away. 

Final checks made to these Fresno Fire Department engines, ready to head into hell.

“They see the communities that it’s affecting and the impact that it’s having, and they’re ready to get out there and do what they can to help protect those communities,” Fresno Fire Department Public Information Officer Robert Castillo said.

More than two dozen firefighters from Fresno alone, some helping on the Camp Fire, 10 headed south, Sunday.

“We’re sending two additional engines, and part of a local government strike team, as well as some overhead assignment down there,” Castillo said.

Along with personnel from other city departments around the valley, too.

The fight also off the fire line; valley Red Cross officials in Southern California, as well.

“The outpouring of support and willingness to go where needed, has just been amazing,” American Red Cross, Central California Region Director of Communications Nicole Maul said.

Confirming to us one Oakhurst volunteer is working in one of four shelters in Southern California, providing food and comfort. 

Other valley volunteers on standby, ready to respond in the coming weeks. 

“The community has just been so strong, and so positive, when it can be difficult to do so,” Maul said.

“We want to continue to keep everyone in our thoughts and prayers, those that are affected by the fires that are going on in Northern and Southern California,” Castillo said. “Hopefully our guys can get down there, and hopefully lend a hand.”

The Red Cross is asking those in the valley who can, to help by donating.

Fresno Fire says, it has off-duty firefighters stepping in to keep resources in Fresno fully functioning.
