New details emerged in an alleged sex abuse case involving a 39-year-old Fresno family law attorney and a teenage boy.
Police arrested Jennifer Walters Aug 8 for multiple sex crimes including lewd and lascivious acts with a child.
Police said they believe the charges date back years, starting when the boy was just 13.
Sgt. Israel Reyes the sexual assault unit supervisor said Fresno police got a call from the parents of a 17-year-old July 31.
“The male disclosed he had been having a sexual relationship with 39-year-old Jennifer Walters,” Reyes said.
He also said they believe the abuse had been ongoing.
“From 4 years ago until just a few weeks before the call was made,” he said.
Reyes said the family were not clients, but they knew each other.
State Bar records list “Walters and Associates” at a North Whitney address in northeast Fresno, but a different business is located in the building.
“You are required to keep a business address with the State Bar, and if you move from that business you are required to let the State Bar know within 30 days of making that move,” David Mugridge a legal analyst said.
Mugridge also said as far as he can tell, Walters is also not a member of the Fresno County Bar — Something he said is not required, but is uncommon.
“Most attorneys that are trying to do business and are trying to grow their business want themselves to be known and one of the best ways to get yourself known as an attorney is to be a member of the local bar association,” he said.
Walter’s was out of the country when police filed a warrant for her arrest, but she was taken into custody at LAX when she returned.
“Anytime anyone has an inappropriate relationship with a child it is concerning especially if you’re practicing in the field of family law. You’re supposed to be an advocate for families and presumably children,” Reyes said.
He said at this point they do not believe there are other victims, but if there are they encourage them to come forward.
