Fresno County takes the crown as the nation’s top agricultural county

FRESNO COUNTY, California (KSEE/KGPE) – The nation’s top agricultural producing county is officially Fresno County.

Figures released Tuesday as part of Tulare County’s Crop and Livestock Report confirmed the news. It’s the first time Fresno County has taken the crown since 2013.

The 2018 total for Fresno County’s ag industry was $7.88 billion; Kern County was second at $7.46 billion, and Tulare County third at $7.21 billion.

CEO of the Fresno County Farm Bureau Ryan Jacobsen says it’s an honor to have the title, but the major takeaway is that it shows California is home to almost all of the nation’s top 10 agricultural counties.

“My job, as well as hundreds of thousands throughout the Valley and state, depends on agriculture,” said Jacobsen.

“California’s farmers and ranchers are amazingly productive, as well as the caretakers of over 24.5 million acres in the state. Together, as a county, region, state, and nation, we must find solutions to our collective issues such as water, labor and regulation to keep this community strong and the nation’s grocery shelves stocked.”
