Fresno County Sheriff’s homicide detectives said they arrested 62 year old Roger Johnson of Squaw Valley for the murder of 46 year old Gary Smith.

Roger Johnson’s arrest stems from an investigation that began on July 19, 2018. Deputies took a report from a family member who said 46 year old Gary Smith of Squaw Valley was missing and had not been seen for about two weeks.

Detectives say that Smith was last known to be staying in a trailer on Roger Johnson’s property located on the 38000 block of Ruth Hill Road in Squaw Valley. They believe Smith may have been killed on September 14th, 2018.

Sheriff’s homicide detectives said they served a search warrant at Johnson’s property for evidence that may be related to Smith’s Disappearance. On January 12th, 2019, detectives received a report of possible human remains being found off of Barberry Lane in Squaw Valley. Detectives responded to the property, examined the remains and determined them to be human bones. They are currently being processed for identification through DNA analysis. The bones are presumed to be those of Gary Smith.

Roger Johnson was booked into the Fresno County Jail for murder. His bail is $1 million.
