Monday the Fresno County Republican party announced it is publicly backing President Trump’s request for a federal investigation into voter fraud. President Trump has said he believes 3 million people voted illegally in the November election. He’s vowed to launch an investigation and Fresno County republicans say they are on board, but Fresno County democrats say the investigation would be a waste.
We’ve talked to the Fresno County clerk many times about voter fraud and she says she’s confident voter fraud isn’t happening here, but the Fresno County Republican Party says a nationwide investigation is overdue.
“We support President Trump in his attempt to investigate voter fraud,” said Fred Vanderhoof the chairman of the Fresno County Republican Party.
The statement is a simple one from Fresno County Republican Party Chairman Fred Vanderhoof. He understands backing the President Trump on this issue comes with much scrutiny.
“It takes guts. it takes courage and a lot of people just don’t want to touch it. by the way, once the election is over everybody is so tired. the loser is tired and to go back and look it’s hard,” said Vanderhoof.
Fresno County Democrats scoffed at the idea.
“There’s almost no instances of voter fraud in the united states. this idea that there’s somehow 3.5 million instances of it they are just trying to legitimize fake news and spend tax payers money in an incorrect way,” said Michael Evans Chairman of the Fresno County Democratic Party.
But when it comes to the voting process in our country. Fresno County republicans say they are confident an investigation will shed light on wrong doing impacting our elections.
“I think California and every state has something worth looking at and so we encourage the trump team to come here also,” said Vanderhoof. “Lets put all the cards on the table and see if there’s truly evidence and if there isn’t. that’s it then.”
Fresno County voting officials ahead of the presidential election vowed to protect the process.
“We adhere to all of the laws of the state of california and federal laws, we have multiple layers of security and we are confident that the integrity of the election will be maintained, said Fresno County Clerk Brandi Orth.
Leaders of the Fresno County Republican Party say they have high expectations for vice president mike pence and his role in a voter fraud investigation. Fresno County Democrats say if this investigation does move forward they hope it will also take on the issue of voter supression.
