Fresno Charter School In Danger Of Closing Gets New Lease On Life

Kepler Neighborhood School had it’s charter renewed for 3-years during an emotional meeting at the Fresno County School Board.  Fresno Unified School District had declined to renew the schools charter due to low test scores.

Kepler decided to appeal that decision to the Fresno County School District.  The district decided that issues causing the low test scores could be fixed, and granted the charter extension.

There were tears and applause when the vote came down.  Kepler Executive Director said after the decision, “You know one of the things that i really struggled with Fresno Unified is that they kept saying that you don’t have the capacity to do it. And you can say a lot of things about us, but we absolutely have demonstrated that we have the capacity to do it”. Ameel broke down in tears after the vote to extend the school’s charter.

Kepler will be monitored during the charter extension to ensure that it is operational standards.
