COALINGA, California — Fervent supporters of Vice President Mike Pence had two chances to see him Wednesday during his visit to the Central Valley with Second Lady Karen Pence.
Those two chances were in Coalinga and Lemoore. First at a fundraising luncheon at Harris Ranch Inn & Restaraunt, then at the Freitas Family Farm.
For those who attended those events, there’s a consensus he said all of the right things on the right topics during his time here.
In the hours leading up to Pence’s visit, supporters were already hoping for words of encouragement.
“I’m sure I’m going to hear that he’s here to encourage everyone to know we’re on the right path, that President Trump has these people’s backs,” said one supporter while waiting for Pence at the Freitas Family Farm. “[That] they can feel confident we’ll be flourishing in this state again.”
For those who got to have lunch with him at Harris Ranch Inn & Restaurant — that’s exactly what they got. Tal Cloud, a business owner from Fresno, said this visit shows the administration still believes in Californians.
“It says California matters, the voters of California matter and our ideas matter. They wanted to come and listen to us and talk to us,” Cloud said. “It’s very inspirational to hear that he’s so committed to the future of this country and excited to what this country has to offer.”
The fundraiser was closed to the public and media and those who bought seats weren’t allowed to bring audio or video recording devices — phones were checked in as guests arrived.
Cloud said Pence went over the administration’s accomplishments, as well as the agenda for the future.
“They have more to accomplish. They talked a lot about immigration [at the luncheon]. Just looking to continue to make America great,” he said.
The luncheon is expected to raise nearly $600,000. It was organized by Trump Victory, a fundraising committee made up of staff from Trump’s re-election campaign and the Republic National Committee.
