Family of Slain Man From El Salvador Holds Wake, Raises Funds To Transport His Body to El Salvador

News

FRESNO, Calif. — On Monday family and friends came together to mourn their beloved friend, brother and son, 24 year old Manuel Hernandez.

His father held a wake for him a little more than a week after he was shot and killed. Police said 2 gunmen tried to rob him and his friends when their car got stuck on the train tracks in Southwest Fresno.

Santos, Manuel’s Father, says his sons loss has been incredibly tough for his family especially knowing how hard he fought to be here.

Just 5 years ago Hernandez traveled hundreds of miles from his home in El Salvador to the Central Valley and our cameras were there for it, as a part of a special report.

He wanted to escape the gangs that infested his home. In search of a better life, he made the trek across the US border and was reunited with his father in Fresno.

Santos said his son worked hard, loved his family, was continuing his schooling in a way to find better opportunities but now his family is forced to move on without him.

If you would like to help his family send his remains to El Salvador, you can call and donate to the Palm La Paz Funeral Home in Fresno.
