EXCLUSIVE: Martzen opens up following the tragic death of her son in suspected DUI crash

News

Fresno, CA – The mother of the 8-year old Selma boy who was killed by a suspected drunk driver breaks her silence.

Just moments after Megan Martzen was released from the hospital, she opened up about the tragic crash. This comes as the suspected drunk driver in that crash is charged with murder.

“We are definitely broken, he was our world and our only child.”

Martzen speaking for the first time since her son, Maverick was killed in a horrific crash Saturday night at the intersection of Bethel and Rose in Selma. Megan and her husband Scott badly injured, but released from the hospital Wednesday afternoon.

“We were literally a block away from home and had he not been doing what he was doing we’d have our baby.”

On Wednesday night the CHP arrested 35-year old Karmjit Singh for murder and driving with a suspended license after being released Tuesday night and being picked up by ICE. Singh is suspected of drinking and driving when he ran a stop sign at nearly 100 miles-an-hour when he crashed into the martzen family. Singh was convicted of a DUI back in 2016 in Tulare County. He’s now being held on a $10 million bond.

“It’s a sigh of relief that he’s being charged with murder because that’s exactly what he did.”

Martzen says 8-year old Maverick was a dancer and an amazing athlete. An up-and-comer on his little league team as their catcher. The fun loving little boy who people gravitated to when he walked into a room.

“His great smile and laughter will always be in our hearts. It’s so hard as a mom to know that you won’t get to hear that anymore.”

The community will be coming together in honor of Maverick and to help his family. A barbeque fundraiser in his name will be held at the Selma little league park this coming Saturday, March 2nd
from noon to 6 p-m. Or you can donate to the family’s GoFundMe page.
