Teaching students how to read and write is important, but for our Educator of this Week it’s just as important to teach them self-confidence.
Ms. Dora Ledesma is a kindergarten teacher at McCord Elementary.
“Feels overwhelming a little bit but very humbling because I love what I do so it’s just my passion to be with the kids and everything that I do is just for them,” said Ms. Ledesma.
Ms. Ledesma does what’s required of her when it comes to academics, but it’s what she does for the student’s self growth that truly stands out.
“I love to encourage the kids to have confidence to be able to speak up,” she said.
In her classroom students have the opportunity to voice their opinions, share what they’ve learned and at times even lead an activity.
That is something you don’t see very often from kindergarteners.
“I feel like if you involve them, the more you involve them the more confidence they get and possibly make a difference in their lives and in the future,” Ms. Ledesma said.
Ms. Ledesma is very involved with her school.
She puts together various events, including the annual talent show.
She is also a model teacher for the district.
“She is very well deserving of this recognition. Our school motto is McCord has heart and she is truly the epitome of McCord heart,” said Oscar Villasenor, principal at McCord Elementary.
