Detwiler Fire burns through 74,083 acres, 58 homes, 60 structures

MARIPOSA COUNTY, California — The Detwiler Fire near Mariposa continues to grow, and the damage continues to intensify.

The fire has now burned 74,083 acres, 58 homes, 60 structures. As of Friday morning, containment grew to 15%.

Eleven homes and six minor structures were damaged, and 1,500 more are threatened.

On Tuesday, Gov. Jerry Brown issued a State of Emergency due to the effects of the Detwiler Fire.

South County:

(Evacuation orders for the town of Mariposa have been lifted. Highway 49S is open with no restrictions. Highway 140E of Mariposa is open to Yosemite)

  • River Road from Briceburg to Northfork Falls
  • Mount Bullion Ridge Road from Highway 49N to Highway 140 and all feeder roads
  • Old Toll Road between Corbett Creek Road and Highway 49N including Corbett Creek Road
  • Mount Gaines Road to No.9 Road including No.9 Road
  • Highway 140 from Hornitos Road to Highway 49S and all feeder roads on both sides
  • Yaqui Gulch Road from Highway 140 to Old Highway and all feeder roads on both sides
  • Old Highway from 49S to School House Road and all feeder roads on both sides
  • Buckeye Road to Ben Hur Road and all feeder roads on both sides
  • Ben Hur Road from Buckeye Road to Highway 49S

Additionally, on Tuesday Pacific Gas and Electric said the wildfire caused power outages for 10,000 customers in Mariposa County. On Thursday, PG&E said power has been restored to about 6,000 of those customers.

There are 3,834 fire personnel working to battle the blaze. To fight the fire, crews are utilizing 478 fire engines, 87 dozers, 61 water tenders, as well as airtankers and helicopters.
