Derek Carr came was in Clovis today for the ribbon cutting of a new facility that will change countless young lives, Magnolia Pediatrics on Herndon and Temperance in Clovis. The facility will operate under the umbrella of Valley Children’s Hospital.
Magnolia Pediatrics will provide primary care services, including wellness checks, immunizations and same-day sick-child visits in 12 counties.
Carr has a special link with Valley Children’s. Hours after hs son, Dallas, was born in 2013, he was rushed into emergency surgery at Valley Children’s Hospital.
Dallas was born with intestinal malrotation, a potentially life-threatening congenital anomaly that can cut off blood supply to the intestinal tract. Dallas is now a happy and healthy 4-year old. “I just think about our experience, Heather and I, with Dallas and the care that we received. Just to know that the other families here in the Fresno area, the Clovis area really the whole central valley are getting the best care that they can get, that to me is what its about”, says Carr.
During today’s visit the NFL superstar spent quality time with young patients. Patients like Damien, who began exchanging videos with Carr the day he began Chemotherapy treatment. Today Damien got to meet his hero as he left the facility at the conclusion of his therapy. ” I sent him a video actually, encouraging, praying for him”.
The bond between Carr and Valley Children’s is a family affair. Carr’s older brother Dave and three of his children have type 1 Diabetes. They all go to Valley Children’s in Madera for treatment.
