Deputies search for masked-prowlers, who they say, broke into a home with a woman inside

“They take it off, stick a hand, open the doors, and walk in.”

Arcadio Castro had just walked out the door of his home for work. He and his wife have lived here on this Parlier ranch 45 years, peacefully.

Until Saturday, March 31st.

“She hears a noise coming from the kitchen area, she figures, ‘Ah you know, my husband forgot something, came back in to grab it,'” Fresno County Sheriff’s Office Information Officer Tony Botti said.

So Castro’s wife yelled her husband’s name. When he didn’t answer, she sent him a text.

“Say, ‘What are you, what are you doing?'” Castro recalls. “‘What do you mean I’m doing, I’m working!'”

“‘No there’s somebody in the house,’ ‘What do you mean there’s, somebody in the house?’

“‘Yeah, because, there’s a lot of noise in the house.’

“‘What,'” Castro said! “I jumped on my Packard and vroom, I ran!”

Surveillance video, captured on multiple cameras, shows what that noise actually was.

Two masked-men approaching slowly, pushing on the glass window of this back door. Eventually running out, Castro’s leaf-blower in hand.

“When I see they walked that way, I said, ‘Oh my blower!'”

The ordeal lasted only a few minutes, the men running off through the orchards surrounding the home.

The Castro’s say, the suspects didn’t take anything else, but did move a knife from this drawer to the outside step.

“Never, 45 years living here, I mean, never,” Castro said.

Botti says Castro’s wife, whether she knew it or not, did the right thing. By staying out of sight and making herself known.

“And they go, ‘Oh shoot, somebody’s home, we better get out of here,'” Botti said. “So it’s a good thing she did that.”

Botti also says, there was another burglary case in Selma last Monday, at Floral and Bethel avenues. He said the cases could be connected.

If you have any information on these suspects, call the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, or Crime Stoppers at 498-STOP.
