A local man is behind bars tonight after being arrested for taking a handgun with an illegal extended magazine to Clovis Community Hospital.

Clovis Police say 27-year old Ekaree Young of Fresno arrived at the hospital this afternoon at 1:45.  Hospital employees working at the valet parking desk noticed a handgun in the vehicle that had been dropped off to be parked by the driver.

When they saw the handgun they immediately called Police. When officers arrived they determined that the gun was illegally possessed because it had an extended magazine.

Officers then went to work finding the driver of the vehicle inside the hospital.  During the investigation Police say family members of the suspect tried to distract officers while he tried to get away in another vehicle.

Officers in the parking lot saw Young in the back seat of a car that was trying to leave the parking lot, and stopped the vehicle.  Young, a convicted felon, was taken into custody and booked into the Fresno County Jail on a variety of charges
