Woman stabbed in the neck at Grocery Outlet. Police say she may have known the suspect

A Fresno woman was stabbed in the neck at a Grocery Outlet Wednesday morning, according to the Fresno Police Department.

Just before 10:30 a.m., Fresno Police officers responded to the discount grocery store at Shaw and Marty avenues regarding a stabbing victim.

A woman in her 60s was found by the counter suffering from stab wounds to her neck, says Lt. Joe Gomez with the Fresno Police Department. He says the woman is a local transient known by employees of the store.

“As the female is walking in front of him, he comes up and stabs her in the neck,” Gomez explains.

Police believe the woman and suspect had a conversation before the stabbing, and that may know each other.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, late 20s early 30s, 5 feet 7 inches tall, black hoodie and pants. Gomez says he doesn’t believe the suspect is homeless.

Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to contact the Fresno Police Department at 559-621-7000.
