VISALIA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A threat made to a local high school is under investigation the Visalia Police Department announced Sunday.
Police say they received information Saturday evening of a social media post circulating that indicated a school shooting would take place Monday at Reedwood Highschool.
On Sunday, officers confirmed the threat was a hoax, however, there will be a heavier presence of law enforcement throughout all of Visalia Unified School District this week.
Authorities say these threats are taken seriously and those responsible will be held accountable through legal and school discipline charges.
Police are urging parents to talk about how to use social media and the consequences of posting inappropriate material, including any type of threat.
Detectives are still working closely with police to investigate.
