Three men were arrested on murder charges Wednesday in connection to the death of a Merced man in January, the Merced Police Department said.
The suspects were identified Thursday as Louie Gonzales, 26, Felipe Heredia, 24, and Christopher Olvera, 24.
Back on Jan. 25, detectives began investigating a homicide that occurred in the 4300 block of Bixby Way in Merced.
Evidence of a breaking and entering was seen at the home.
A 50-year-old man was found dead in his bedroom.
He was identified as Jeff Bergeron of Merced.
Before learning of his death, one of Bergeron’s employees came to check on him at his home after not hearing from him for a longer period than usual. His truck was missing from his home, they said.
Bergeron’s employee said he worked in the ag industry and is a Fresno State alumnus. They also said he was recently featured in Valley Ag Magazine.
He was a father of a 12-year-old, according to people who knew him.
Over the last two months, detectives were able to identify the suspects.
Gonzales, Heredia and Olvera are gang members from the Merced area, police said.
On Wednesday, detectives from the Merced Police Department, with the assistance of MAGNET and the Gang Violence Suppression Unit, were able to take Gonzales, Olvera and Heredia into custody.
All three suspects were arrested and booked into the Merced County Jail on murder charges with a gang enhancement.
