Suspect tries taking off his clothes to escape arrest, police say

MADERA, California (KSEE/KGPE) – A man who tried to disguise himself by taking off his clothes in a bid to evade officers has been arrested, according to Madera Police.

The incident began early Wednesday morning on the northbound Highway 99 near Fourth Street. Officers were told about a stolen vehicle which was then followed down a dead-end road.

According to police, the suspect was discovered sitting in a chair near a shed outside a rural home. Officers reported that he had taken off his shirt, socks, and shoes, and told officers that he was just relaxing at home.

The 40-year-old man from Madera was booked into Madera County Jail. He has been charged with recklessly evading an officer, vehicle theft, and probation violation.
