The 35-year-old man accussed of striking and killing an eight-year-old boy in a DUI collision Feb. 23 has been offifically charged with murder.
The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday Karmjit Singh of Visalia has been charged with murder relating to Maverick Martzen’s death.
The DA accusses Singh of driving the vehicle that struck another vehicle that was being driven by the parents of the child at the intersection of Bethel and Rose avenues outside of the City of Selma.
If convicted of the charges, Singh faces a sentence of up to 15 years to life in custody.
However, upon reaching age 60 and after serving 25 years, Singh will be eligible for release under the Elderly Parole Program, the DA says.
Singh was originally arrested on Sunday morning by California Highway Patrol officers. He was rearrested this evening on the charge of murder, and is in the process of being booked into the Fresno County Jail Wednesday.
The court date for his arraignment is unknown at this time.
