A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of several theft-related charges, including evading police officers Saturday night in southeast Fresno.

As officers were on patrol near Belmont Avenue and Fifth Street around 6 p.m., they received a report of a stolen vehicle sighting in the area of Fisher Street and Thomas Avenue.

The caller told dispatch there was a suspicious person sitting inside a car, and gave a detailed description of the vehicle and the suspect, police say.

Officers began driving to the location and spotted the stolen vehicle near Washington Avenue and Sixth Street.

They followed the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop by flashing their lights and siren. The suspect refused to stop, police say, and sped away.

Due to the traffic conditions and being in a neighborhood, the suspect was able to quickly escape.

However, a short time later they found the suspect vehicle stopped in the middle of the street near Jackson and Iowa avenues where the suspect crashed into a parked car.

He was seen running from the vehicle into an alleyway where he was arrested.

The suspect was identified as 24-year-old Dominique Aguilar, a self-admitted gang member. He was booked into Fresno County Jail on suspicion of possession of stolen property, possession of a stolen vehicle, violation of probation and resisting arrest.
