A Sanger man shouted for officers to kill him after evading them during a domestic violence call.

It happened Thursday morning around 8:50 a.m. in the 1900 block of Third Street when officers were called for a report of domestic violence.

Police say Ric Ortiz, 21, had reportedly struck his ex-girlfriend in the face causing her injuries, before fleeing. Officers caught up to Ortiz, he refused their commands and fled once again.

After a short foot chase, Ortiz abruptly stopped in the middle of Jensen Avenue and turned towards the officers. Police say he challenged them, yelling, “Shoot me, shoot me, just kill me.”

Tasers were used to subdue Ortiz, preventing injury to himself, officers or the public.

Police say Ortiz was in possession of a knife and is on felony probation for other violent crimes.

He was booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of multiple felony charges, including domestic violence and resisting arrest. He also had an outstanding felony warrant.

The victim of his assault was treated for her injuries and was provided with victim assistance information, according to the department.
